Fraudulent physician were a meance in charaka 's time as he devoted a whole chapter  to them . in charaka 's period ,a student had  to take  a detailed oath on ethical conduct covering personal , socil, professional and spiritual  conduct in a sacred assembly befose he was accepted  for training as a physician . (Dr.m.s. valiathan,2003).

unprofessional conduct of physician : kautilya 's arthasastra perscribed severe punishment including  death for carring out dangerous medical procedures without state 's  permission ; for death  of patient  by careless of the physician ; and  for progress of the disease due to the negligence of the physician .(T.R Shamasastry,1967).

shusrutha  was  a cekebrated surgein during  the gupta period . he described autohritatively the procedures of plasticsurgery , cosmetic and orthopadic surgery apart from cesarean section . he had more than hundred surgical instruments in his possession . it is of interest to note that he used to perform plastic surgery of the nose . shurpanaka  whose nose  was cut off as a measure  of punishment by laxmana  for shadowing  him, would have  approached  shusrutha if  he lived during  Ramayana  days.
