The Madras high court orderd a CBI enquiry into an eye camp conducted in july 2008 in which nearly 65 persons of two villages in villupuram district had lost their vision .
in its interim order on a petition , the First bench , comprising chief justice M.y. eqbal and justice t.s. sivagnanam , observed ." the incident , whcich had taken place , is no lessheinous than that of the Bhagalpur bliding case," in the name of conducting a free eye camp for cataract surgery . the poor and the downtrdden villagers lost their vision due to administring of contaminated eye drops by doctors of joseph Eye Hospital , tirichi. the court was shoked to note thet out of the Rs.23.25 crore allottted to the tamil nadu state bilndness control society in 20008 -2009 , nerl 50 per cent of the funds had been given to this hospital.
